Site Surveys for PV Installations

You are here

  1. The site survey is crucial for getting the right positioning for the solar electric system. Spend sufficient time on the survey in order to get it right.
  2. Draw a sketch of the site and take photographs before starting on the design for your solar system.
  3. It is possible to mount solar panels on the roof or on the ground using a pole or a frame. Roof-mounted panels require a frame.
  4. There should be no obstructions that will shade the solar panels. This can become an issue during winter, when solar energy is especially limited.
  5. The batteries, inverter and controller need a suitable storage space.
  6. Short cables are preferred for reducing voltage losses. Long cables will require a higher voltage to compensate.
