Water Supply in the World

You are here

A huge part of the world is already facing a shortage of water supply. A lot of the lakes and rivers in the poor countries of Central Asia have already dried up. Even the rich states in the United States are experiencing the same water shortage. The Colorado River which was once roaring with water is no longer as mighty as it used to be. At present, it does not have enough water to flow to the sea.

China and more than 200 of its cities including its capital Beijing, is also experiencing a shortage of water because of the rapid growth of its economy and population. The groundwater level in China is decreasing at a steady rate of 6 feet each year. More than 1/3 of the wells in Beijing have already dried up.

Approximately 25 million refugees are uprooted each year due to the pollution of the river basins and rivers. This is an even bigger number than the refugees that are uprooted due to wars. It is estimated that the uprooted refugees in need of food and water will reach 2 Billion by the year 2025.

The people in the United States are the lucky ones because we still have adequate water to meet our needs as long as we take good care of our water source and conserve water. It is expected that the continuous growth of our population and the changes in the climate will put a huge strain on our water sources. We have a huge chance of saving our precious water sources and saving a lot of money in the process.

Conserve our water – it is important to our existence.
