Baseboards, Moldings, and Doorway Trim

If there are gaps between framing sections, these can be covered with trimmed pieces of moldings, baseboards and door casings. For instance, a pre-designed door to be placed in a framed wall section known as the "rough opening" needs to be smaller than the opening or it won’t fit. But if sealing is not done properly on the opening, a lot of air leakage will occur. Window framing methods are the best for sealing such areas. Small gaps near carpets or even finished wood may prove messy if applying urethane foam. Oakum or foam rope would work well.
