Layer a 12-inch "clear stone" over the footing drain.

Cover the clear stone with a filter fabric strip, also known as "gardener's cloth" to prevent clogging by dirt and sand.

The footing drain’s downhill route from the house should lead to a dry well or drainage ditch. A dry well is just a 3ft – 4ft diameter hole that’s lower than the house footings. Insert one end of the footing drainpipe into the dry well and fill it with 12 inches of crushed "clear stone". Cover the top and add soil to fill up the well.

Ensure that every service pipe or cable that goes through the foundation wall is properly sealed with an appropriate caulking material. Leave a little room for insulation.
