have revised their legislation so that NEVs are now classified as “Medium Speed Vehicles,” which allows them to travel up to 35 mph (56km/h) on roads with 45 mph speed limit. Many states are also following that lead to encourage more electric car use.

As the restrictions have been reduced, NEVs have grown to become a practical choice for all Americans living and working in urban areas, and who use their cars primarily for short distances around the area in which they live. The NEV, for many reasons, is not practical for long distance driving, or for traveling in areas that require a higher speed limit, such as high speed highway travel.

In addition to being an ideal form of urban transportation, NEVs have also become popular in the commercial sector. These are mostly trucks and vans that have become popular for carrying out street cleaning, refuse collection and for park management in central city areas. Even the American Army is utilizing NEVs. They have leased thousands of these small vehicles for on base transportation of personnel, and for deliveries and maintenance duties.
