Reduce your Waste

You are here

The best choice is to reduce our waste at all cost. Most of us barely look at what goes into our trash bin. You might be surprised to find out that a huge percentage of our trash is still very usable. One good example is the huge corporate offices that upgrade their computer system and just throw out the old computers. Even the computers which are in perfectly usable condition go into the trash, just because they are outdated. It is such a waste, because these computers are upgradeable just by reformatting them and installing more updated software. After the upgradation, one can put them to a very good use by donating them to people who need them the most, such as those that cannot afford to buy the latest computers or the community groups that could really use a computer. The fashion industry also adds to the increasing amount of waste in our environment. Every few months, the latest fashion trends emerge. With the emergence of new trend, the old fashion trends are out in the trash. This is also true with the latest trends in gadgets. As they launch the new models of gadgets in the market, the people line up to buy the latest gadget and just throw out their old gadgets in the trash. To address the bad effect of these trends to the environment, a group of designers has conceptualized the “anti-fashion”, which aims to create fashion that is durable and will never go out of style.

A sanitation officer has observed the amount of usable materials that end up in the waste dumps. He thinks that it is such a waste to throw away things that are still in working condition, when one can give them away to relatives and friends, who can still use them. He also observes that mankind is just working hard to earn money that they will use to buy useless stuff, which will just end up buried in the soil, where we all will eventually land someday.
