Cover both ends of the Pex tubing with duct tape to keep dirt and small animals out while the tubing warms up. The adhesive on the tape will deteriorate the tubing, so you'll have to cut the ends off. Remember to account for that when you're measuring lengths and never fix Pex in place with tape.
