  • are better than a single huge one.
  • Don't underload the dryer either (a common error).
  • Don't overuse the dryer – hang your clothes to dry whenever possible.
  • Chain dry: if you have several loads, put similar fabrics together and dry loads one after the other to use the residual heat in the appliance.
  • Clean the filter after every load.
  • Choose a lower-temperature cycle: surprisingly, it is often more energy-efficient to dry clothes for longer at a lower temperature. It also gives them a longer life!

Of course, the most energy efficient method possible for drying clothes is to hang them and let nature handle it. Even if the clothes aren't completely dry by the end of the day (assuming you don't leave them out overnight), you should still see a reduction in powered drying time to finish the job.

Airing cupboards and dryer cabinets are far more common in Europe than in the US but most homes have a space that can be used to hang damp laundry. Remember to make sure there is sufficient airflow to remove the humid air or it will condense and cause trouble.
